RELEASE Chandra Gains Momentum as Endorsements Roll InAkron Beacon Journal 2nd Major Newspaper to EndorseCleveland, Ohio - The Akron Beacon Journal endorsed Subodh Chandra today for Ohio Attorney General in the Democratic Primary. The editorial noted that "Democrats shouldn't miss the opportunity to select such a qualified and determined candidate. We recommend the election of Subodh Chandra on May 2." The editorial endorsement highlighted Chandra's vision for the office: Chandra wants to raise expectations for the office. He wants to employ its untapped authority. He has in mind an attorney general who pursues more aggressively the interests of his client, the public. For instance, he wouldn't quietly stand aside as the state legislature thumbed its nose at the Ohio Supreme Court, defying court orders to overhaul school funding. He would seek to play the role of catalyst, using the bully pulpit of his office to press for change. Chandra's experience for the job was also touted: The encouraging thing is, Chandra has an enviable track record that suggests he would succeed. In Cleveland, he transformed a wayward law department. He attacked the problem of special counsel, the cozy relations between the department and private attorneys, something that has long infected the office of attorney general. Subodh Chandra promises a refreshing combination of skills and experience that would elevate the office. The Akron Beacon Journal is the second major Ohio newspaper to take a position on the Democratic primary race for attorney general. The Plain Dealer endorsed Chandra on Sunday, April 2, 2006, stating that "...Chandra, by virtue of proven private and public legal accomplishment, his exceptional stewardship over the Cleveland Law Department, his fine intellect and his plans to target political corruption, should be the nominee." In addition to Ohio newspapers, Chandra is also impressing Democratic organizations around Ohio. The Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio also endorsed Chandra. President Russ Goodwin said that "after Mr. Chandra's powerful address at our club meeting last night, Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio realized that Chandra's experience makes him the clear choice for Ohio Attorney General. We look forward to working for and with Mr. Chandra as he fights for the freedoms and the rights of 'ALL' the people of Ohio." Both the Columbus and Cleveland chapters of the Stonewall Democrats have endorsed Chandra's candidacy for Ohio Attorney General.
