With our Daddy’s primary election for Ohio Attorney General on May 2, we thought it was time for us finally to speak out. Before we do that, you might want to watch Daddy’s puppet show for us and our friends. It explains a lot why he decided to run.
Even though we’ve missed him a lot while he’s been on the campaign trail (Mommy doesn’t let us eat as much popcorn as Daddy does), we endorse Daddy.
Daddy wants to be the People’s Lawyer.
Daddy tells us that the attorney general's job is to be the People's Lawyer, running the People's Law Firm. A new governor can bring all the yummy food and toys we need in the world through our front door but it will all be taken away from us out the back door, if the attorney general won’t protect our house from bad people. Daddy says we need both prosperity and protection—a great governor and a great attorney general—if we are going to be able to grow up healthy and happy in this state.
We like to take daytime naps but we know that most working adults aren’t supposed to. Daddy says that Ohio’s attorneys general for the last twelve years (WOW, that’s a LONG TIME, isn’t it?) haven’t just been napping at the back door. They’ve been holding open the back door for the bad people who steal. Instead of fighting for us Ohio munchkins—their true clients—they’ve been actively working for the bad people!
Daddy says that’s very naughty and we all paid a price. Grandparents were lured into predatory loans, losing their homes, people who use natural gas to keep their toddlers warm at home paid a huge unaffordable increase in their bills, and people who believe in democracy had their confidence shattered by 2004 election shenanigans (see how we felt in the attached photo)—all because the attorney general abandoned us.
Naughty people. Daddy also says by losing this office the last three elections, we’ve lost the means to defend the interests of everyday people and keep bad people from stealing our future.
Daddy’s ready.
We’re proud of what Daddy has done to try to protect everyday people. He’s a former federal prosecutor who won recognition from the FBI director. And he was a big-city law director who helped clean up corruption at City Hall and ran a People's Law Firm once before (he left it to spend more time with us).
And Daddy has changed so many of our diapers that cleaning up Ohio government isn't going to be that hard for him!
So could you please help Daddy fight for you?
Endless possibilities.
We are third-generation Americans. We run around at brainless speeds believing that our lives are filled with endless possibilities. Aren’t they? And shouldn’t all of America's children feel that way?
Daddy can make history by becoming the first South-Asian American ever elected to statewide office.
Hugs.
Ohioans everywhere have embraced Daddy the way he embraces us. The chairs of several southern Ohio counties (including Hamilton County, one of the biggest) support Daddy. Daddy tells people on the trail that his name, Subodh, means “good knowledge.” He asks if folks agree that it’s time that Ohioans were represented by an attorney general whose very name means "good knowledge" instead of one (a reference to recent corruption scandals) who is always claiming he had no knowledge. Audiences roar with approval.
Daddy reminds people of the proud history of the Democratic Party in electing the first Chinese-American governor, and in electing Illinois Senator Barack Obama. He talks about our immigrant grandparents' values: hard work, discipline, reverence for education, respect for your elders, and frugality, and how those values are precisely the values eroding away from public life that we need restored.
And people respond. Daddy needs your help now so he can reach out and hug everyone before May 2. As generously as you can afford (the maximum individual contribution limit is $10,000), please visit www.ChandraForOhio.com.
Please donate what you can to ensure that Ohioans are protected from harm and loss, and the all of our lives are filled with endless posibility.
And please forward this email to your friends and ask them to help too.
Love,
Karthik, Chethan, and Akaash Chandra
P.S. Don’t forget to watch Daddy’s puppet show!!
